KISHTWAR, Feb 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Teachers’ Joint Action Committee (JK TJAC) has urged the Government to take immediate steps to improve the education sector in the Union Territory.
In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, JK TJAC Zone Paddar president, Kuldeep Raj, highlighted key concerns and proposed solutions for better academic and administrative facilities.
The memorandum called for the deployment of Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRCs) in high schools, especially those upgraded under the RMSA scheme.
These coordinators, already present in higher secondary schools, can help address teacher shortages and enhance academic support.
Another major demand is an increase in honorarium for cook-cum-helpers, who prepare mid-day meals for students but receive only Rs 1,000 per month for just nine months a year.
The JK TJAC delegation stressed that their contributions must be recognized with fair wages.
The organization also sought timely and regular payment of honorariums to sweepers and AAYAs (helpers), ensuring financial stability and fair compensation for their services.
Additionally, JK TJAC recommended a uniform academic calendar for schools in the Kashmir division and Jammu’s winter zone, streamlining schedules and examination dates.
Among other demands, the committee called for curriculum modifications to include skill-based and practical knowledge, faster processing of pending files for Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers, and yearly meetings of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) to ensure timely promotions.
They also urged the government to introduce a fair transfer policy for RRET teachers and implement a five-year contractual service period.
Earlier, the JK TJAC delegation submitted a memorandum of the demands in the receipt section of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, calling his attention to the pressing issues of the education sector.
Among those who accompanied Kuldeep Raj, the organisation President, were Chamn Lal, Vice-president, Mool Raj, Joint Secretary, Hukam Chand, Advisor, and Rajinder Singh, Senior Vice-President.
