SRINAGAR: The State Government is moving a legislation for age relaxation in the appointment of State Accountability Commission (SAC) chairman and members.
The chief spokesperson for the Government Nayeem Akhtar, who is also Minister for Education, told reporters here today a legislation for age relaxation would be moved in the appointment of SAC chairman and members.
“We want to appoint good and established retired judges to deal with the corruption in the state which has suffered due to corruption and lack of transparency and accountability in the past,” he said.
Mr Akhtar said the legislation will help the Government to appoint older members. “We have kick started the process and the state will have full SAC,” he said, adding that there are cases pending in the SAC for years. The SAC has been constituted under J&K Accountability Commission Act, 2002 to inquire into grievances and allegations against public functionaries and for matter connected therewith.
As per section 4 of the J&K Accountability Act, the chairperson and the members are to be appointed by the Governor after obtaining the recommendations of a Committee consisting of the Chief Minister, the Speaker of Legislative Assembly, the Chief Justice of the State High Court, the Law Minister and the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly.
