SRINAGAR, Aug 2: Two days after Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha launched the Swachhata Pakhwada, known as “The Shuchita Sangram,” at SKICC, there has been a remarkable public response as over 1.1 million people from across Jammu and Kashmir have participated in various sanitation activities.
The campaign has seen enthusiastic involvement from district headquarters to remote panchayats.
In the first two days alone, over 12,833 activities took place, with participants spending more than 5.63 lakh minutes on these initiatives.
The official IT monitoring dashboard, developed by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, tracks these activities daily from August 1st to 15th.
Mass rallies were conducted in all 20 districts, led by ACDs, ACPs, BDOs, and other officials.
Additionally, 515 people downloaded “Swachhata Pledge Certificates” from the campaign website.
Two IEC Vans, dispatched by LG Sinha, travelled through rural areas in Srinagar and several panchayats in Pulwama, promoting cleanliness and educating the public on hygiene practices.
During “The Shuchita Sangram,” several key initiatives were launched to promote cleanliness in J&K. These included a Signatures Campaign to engage the community, an IT Dashboard for real-time monitoring of sanitation activities, and a range of projects such as door-to-door waste collection, source segregation, household composting, and plastic waste management.
An agreement was signed to market compost, supporting sustainable agricultural practices and organic waste management.
The ceremonial planting of trees, called “Ek Ped Shaheedon Ke Naam,” honoured martyrs and highlighted the campaign’s respect and remembrance.
Six exceptional sanitation workers and two hospitality entities were recognized under the “Swachhata Green Leaf Rating” (SGLR) for their outstanding contributions to cleanliness.
“The Shuchita Sangram” marks a significant step towards a cleaner, healthier J&K.
The two-week campaign aims to instil a strong sense of responsibility among citizens, encouraging them to actively participate in sanitation efforts and uphold cleanliness in their daily lives.
