JAMMU, Sept 19: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary and NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam has said that Jammu and Kashmir will be one of the most prosperous regions of India in next 10 years.
In a conversation with NatStrat, Subrahmanyam, who was Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir when special status of erstwhile State was revoked and it was bifurcated into two UTs of J&K and Ladakh on August 5, 2019, said the people of Kashmir embraced changes willingly.
“After Constitutional changes and transformation that has happened, I think Kashmir has revived phenomenally. Ordinary people have risen to the occasion. The important thing is the changes that happened in Kashmir happened without bloodshed,” he said.
Subrahmanyam recalled that the people said this and that but not even a sparrow was killed (when August 5 decisions were taken).
“There was worry that there would be uprising or something, However, people embraced changes willingly because they wanted to get along,” he recalled.
Asserting that Kashmir missed the liberalization of India in 1991, the NITI Aayog CEO and former Chief Secretary of J&K said the people were living in different era.
“I see bright future for Jammu and Kashmir now. Within 10 years, Jammu and Kashmir will be one of the most prosperous regions and genuinely the crown jewel of India,” Subrahmanyam said.
He was appointed as the Chief Secretary of J&K in 2018 after the collapse of PDP-BJP coalition Government when the erstwhile State was put under President’s rule.
