JAMMU: In order to devise the skill policy and skill roadmap for the state, a consultative meeting on “Skill Gap Analysis and Skill Road Map for J&K” was held by J&K State Skill Development Mission (JKSSDM) in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) here today.
In a first, Departmental heads from different departments with the mandated to work on skill & entrepreneurship development in J&K held discussion with 15 resource persons from NSDC to do skill gap analysis and to form skill roadmap for the J&K state.
On the occasion, Mission Director, JKSSDM G.N Peer Suhail said, “Our youth are talented, all we need to do is to channelize their talent in the right direction and this skill gap study will help in charting out our future strategy to prepare our youth on skill and entrepreneurship development.”
“It is our endeavour to impart training to unskilled youth to make them able to meet the new technology adopted by the industrial sectors,” he said. Besides, it will help to improve the old skills and provide healthy environment to reap the benefits of skilled workforce of the state, he added.
Reiterating that J&K would be one of the few states in the country to come up with a state skill policy, G.N Peer Suhail said , “The skill gap analysis will be instrumental in devising the state skill policy for undertaking initiatives which will make the youth of J&K skilled and employable”.
Ajay Kumar, Project Head (Udaan), NSDC said, “Few years back, a skill gap analysis was conducted, but over the years things on ground have changed and it has initiated the need to carry out a fresh skill gap analysis. This time we will go to the grassroots level to know what is required to build a roadmap for skill development in J&K”.
Tuhin Sen , Associate Director, Athena Infonomics gave a detailed power presentation on how the skill gap analysis will be conducted and what kind of support will be needed from the various skill development stakeholders to implement the skill gap analysis effectively.
The JKSSDM has been constituted by the government of J&K to integrate the skill development programmes in the state and train the unskilled youth of the state and connect them with the job market.
The Meeting was attended by the members of NSDC and Head of Departments of various departments.
