JAMMU, Feb 11: Jammu and Kashmir Arms and Ammunition Association (JKAAA) today appealed the UT Government to issue directions to all district magistrates to accelerate periodical renewal of individual arms licenses in accordance with Arms Rule of 2016.
Addressing a press conference, president of the Association, ML Sharma said that the trade activities of Arms manufacturers and dealers in J&K have almost came to standstill and for last three years, they have no work.

He said all the manufacturers and dealers could not be punished for wrong doings of some of them. He said there are about 31 arms factories and 180 arms dealers in the UT and since the fake arms license scam came to light, all those depending on these factories and dealers for their bread and butter are struggling to make their both ends meet.
Sharma said that these factories and dealers were contributing Rs 100 crore annually to state exchequer but now they are on the verge of closure which may result into loss of jobs to about 30,000 skilled/ unskilled labourers.
He said the matter of issuing fake arms licenses is being investigated by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI, which is a premiere investigation agency of the country. He said whosever found guilty in the probe of the CBI should be punished as per law but those who want to do the trade with honesty should be allowed and the authorities should facilitate their trade activities.
The JKAAA president appealed the UT Government to issue directions to DCs of all districts to accelerate the periodical renewal of individual arms possession licenses and issuing required permission for import and export of arms and ammunition.
