RAJOURI, Aug 2: In order to develop regional languages of the State, a day long literary and cultural meet was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at Kalakote.
A galaxy of writers, poets, intellectuals representing local ethos of Gojri, Pahari, Dogri, Kashmiri and Punjabi participated in this meet.
Ch Khalid Wafa, Reputed Writer and Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kalakote presided over the function, while Dr Javaid Rahi and writer KK Khaki were also in the presidium.
Dr Javaid Rahi in his welcome address stated that Academy is focusing on the development of regional languages and this programme was organised to develop intra cultural understandings. He said that Academy is committed to promote the strong tradition of art culture and literature of twin border Districts and a number of poets are versatile in writing on the spot poetry in its original form.
Ch Khalid Wafa suggested that Academy should organise Poonch-Rajouri Cultural Conferences here at Kalakote and local administration should support the event. He said that the spectrum of local languages is very vast and Academy should reach to each area and cover this cherished heritage.
In his address, KK Khaki said that Poonch-Rajouri districts posses’ strong roots and writers community should strive hard to enrich the literary tradition of this important tribal language.
During the meet, regional languages Mushaira was held and 40 local poets representing different languages participated and recited their latest poetry. The main attraction of the event was the music, dance and theatre performance programme.
Earlier, a two minute silence was observed to pay tribute to renowned writers Dr Sabir Mirza and Ishaq Bajran.
