JAMMU, Apr 13: As a part of series of programmes being organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in different corners of the Jammu division, JKAACL today organised a Baisakhi Lok Festival in the lawns of the Academy here today.
Anjali Sharma, Director Doordarshan was the chief guest, Haroon Rashid secretary and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary of the Academy were also part of the presidium. Over fifty artists of different shades of folklore participated in the programme and showcased the diverse culture of the State especially of Jammu division.
The venue was given a festive look by installing buntings and banners showing colourful event coinciding with Baisakhi festival. A ritual entry was also created from where the VVIPs and others entered the venue.
Director Doordarshan, while speaking on the occasion said that JKAACL is doing a very good job in promoting the art, culture and languages of the State with special reference to the safeguarding of the dying folk forms. Recently, the folk melas organised by the Academy in different and remote areas of the Jammu Division have earned a name and fame. JKAACL has not only approached at the door steps of the artists but it has also given platform to the local artist of the area where these melas were held earlier.
Haroon Rashid, in his welcome address extended thanks to the VIP and others who spared time out of their busy schedule for gracing the occasion and also of the others for attending the programmes. He said besides encouraging the Academy, it also proves helpful in promoting the art, culture of the State. He hoped that Academy will also receive cooperation in future as well.
Dr Amn delivered vote of thanks where as Pankaj Sharma and Anil Tickoo conducted proceedings of the programme. The parties which participated in Baisakhi Lok Mela were Rattan Dogra and party, Chaman Lal Premi and party, Darshan Lal Patakha and party, Pushpa Devi and party, Mohan Lal Dogra and party.
Prominent among others present included Shiv Dutt, Dr Harish Kaila, KK Shakir, Ratttan Doshi, Krishan Lal Mast, Kumar A Bharti, Sham Talib, Baljit Singh Raina, Dalbir Singh, Khaild Husain, Dr Lalit Gupta and Deepak Kumar.
