SRINAGAR, Oct 5: “Meet the Eminent” programme on Dr Rachpal Singh Bali acclaimed Punjabi Novelist of Baramulla, Kashmir was organized today at Tagore Hall, Srinagar under the guidance of Bharat Singh, Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages.
The senior writers, well known intellectuals and young scholars were present in the programme. Dr Rachpal Singh Bali, is a well known writer of 12 novels in Punjabi. He started writing during 1969 and his first book was published under title “Peedian Naaran” in 1969. Till now, he has published one dozen novels which have been appreciated by Punjabi scholars’ and writers’ fraternity in J&K and outside. Scholars from Jammu and outside have done PhD’s on his novels ‘Peedian Naaran’, ‘Mouaa’, ‘Mitti Di Saanjh’, ‘Vaapsi’, ‘Historia’, ‘Chahat’, ‘Khalikhet’, ‘Deede’ etc. He has also been awarded by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
Two papers were read by scholars Ajit Singh Mastana and Dr Satwant Singh on the life and contribution of Dr Bali. Ajit Singh Mastana threw light on his literature especially his novels in detail, His novels cover the themes of the betterment of society. The 2nd paper by Dr Satwant Singh covered his life period since childhood to till date. He also highlighted the steps taken by Dr RS Bali in his writings under different titles.
In his address Jagmohan Singh Raina, Chairman All Sikh Coordination Committee appreciated the efforts made by Dr Rachpal Singh Bali for his rich contribution in the field of Punjabi literature. He said that his contribution is praiseworthy and having rich publication merit. He added that the young and budding writers can learn and know the contribution of eminent literary figures like Dr Rachpal Singh Bali who is a well known Punjabi scholar and scientist by profession.
Dr Faroq Anwar Mirza said that Cultural Academy plans to hold such literary and cultural activities at various places in the JKUT. He said that Meet the Eminent is also an important part of literary programmes. Dr Bali also shared experience of his life and contribution in the field of literature written in Punjabi.
Writers of Punjabi and other languages who were present included Dr J S Shan, Ichpal Singh, Kewalpal Singh, Naranjan Singh, M S Jugnu, H S Pali, S S Sodhi, KS Talib, Rattan Kanwal, Ranbir Singh, KS Inqalabi, Kavinain Singh, Harbhajan Singh and others .
