JAMMU, May 1: J&K Academy of Art, Cultural and Languages (JKAACL) here today paid glowing tribute to veteran freedom fighter, well known academician and noted Kashmiri poet and author, Sarwanand Koul Premi and his son Verinder Koul on their 32nd Shahedi Diwas.
A handout stated that it was on this day that Premi fell to bullets of killers in Kashmir.
At a function in K.L Saigal Hall this great son of Kashmir, who enriched Kashmiri language and literature and promoted communal amity through his writings was remembered and the speakers re-called his contributions in the field of social work.
On this occasion a monograph on the life and works of Late Sarwanand Koul Premi, authored by well known Kashmiri writer G.N Aatish and published by JKAACL was released.
Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary (J) said that the Academy has been organizing befitting literary meet on this towering personality and will continue to do so in future too.
Dr. Rattan Talashi read out an exhaustive paper in Kashmiri, highlighting Late Premi’s contribution to Kashmiri language and literature.
He gave an overview of his two highly acclaimed works -Urdu version of Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta and Kashur Ramayana and attributed them as the best and unique works.
Upender Ambardar also spoke on the occasion while Arvind Koul along with Dr. Deepali Wattal and her party enthralled the audience by singing devotional songs of Late Premi.
Prof. Dr. Rattan Lal Hangloo presided over the function while Justice (Retd.), Brij Nath Bhat was the chief guest.
Dr. Hangloo, veteran Historian was felicitated and a set of books authored by Late Premi were presented to Sanjay Pandita, Dr. Deepali Wattal, Dr. Kudeep Sudeshi and Satish Safeer for their contribution to various fields.
A two minutes silence was observed and the speakers pledged to keep Premi’s message of peace, friendship and religious tolerance going on.
Rajinder Premi, son of Late Premi along with other family members were also present on the occasion.
Vinod Pandita conducted proceedings and vote of thanks was presented by Rajinder Premi, eldest son of Late Premi.
