JAMMU, July 22: Opposing privatization of the Power Development Department (PDD), Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) has appealed the Government to revert the decision as it has escalated the electricity per unit and future of thousands of employees has also been put into uncertainty.
In a joint press statement, former minister Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, former Minister Manjit Singh, Ex-MLC Vijay Bakaya, senior leader Vikram Malhotra, Namrata Sharma, Raqeeq Ahmed Khan, senior trade union leader Ajaz Kazmi and others have expressed strong resentment against the privatization of the PDD.
“The Government had to improve the electricity supply and stop electricity losses instead of privatizing the department. The policy decisions need to be taken by the Government to strengthen round the clock electricity supply in Jammu and Kashmir,” said senior JKAP leaders.
They further added that the department was in need to make some welfare decisions for the employees as well as regularization of the workers who have completed seven years of service since their engagement.
“The Government should desist from the decisions which put public life in hardship. There is out cry against the unscheduled power cuts in most of the areas even in metered places of Jammu district when the temperature is soaring,” they added.
The JKAP leaders said that the privatization has increased electricity per unit and cost escalation will over burden the people in the ongoing pandemic situation.
They said that people have lost their jobs and many business establishments have been closed due to covid-19, they added and appealed the Government to review their decision for the welfare of the people, PDD employees and their families.
