JAMMU, May 14: Pitching for restoration of stalled major economic activities in two districts, former Minister and J&K Apni Party senior leader, Ajaz Ahmed Khan has appealed Lt Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to personally intervene so that the halted works can be resumed on national highway widening, Railway project, mining projects and work on PMGSY roads in Reasi and Ramban districts.
“In these projects, local people are engaged as workers (skilled and unskilled) on temporary basis and small works are sublet to the contractors in these areas who have rendered jobless in view of outbreak of pandemic Covid19,” he said.
Khan said that these major economic activities, which have been stopped soon after the nationwide lockdown, must be restored though some work has been initiated.
“There is a need to restore the work taking all precautions preventing Covid19 spread. The workers engaged in these have also not been paid from last two-three months. Similarly, the contractors and suppliers of material are also facing financial crunch due to non-clearance of their dues,” said Khan.
Expressing concern over the delay in restoring the work, he said, these projects have become the backbone for local population as major economic activities in Reasi and Ramban on which families are dependent.
Khan said mining of gypsum in Dharamkhund in Parlanka, Railway work in Sangaldhan, Dharam, Shashva, Arnas in Reasi and Banihal areas of Ramban districts should also be started. The work must be restored at the earliest so that the poor families can be benefited financially, he demanded.
