JAMMU, Dec 15: Police today arrested an official of Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited (JKBL), posted at Panama Chowk, for keeping a girl under illegal confinement and attempting rape on her at Hotel Khazan in Gumat area under the jurisdiction of Nowabad police station.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Sharief, 55, son of Abdul Sattar, a resident of Dalpatian Mohalla and posted in Jammu and Kashmir Bank at Panama Chowk.
He took the girl along with her on the pretext that he would get her treated from a religious person. However, he locked the girl at Hotel Khazan and tried to rape her. The girl raised hue and cry.
Hearing the cries, the hotel staff broke open the door and rescued the girl. They informed Nowabad police station. Police parties headed by SHO Nowabad Jai Pal Sharma reached the spot and arrested the accused. The girl, a resident of Paddar, Kishtwar, was restored to her family members after medical examination.
A case under Section 511, 376, 354 and 418 RPC has been registered against the accused for further investigations.
