AKHNOOR, Dec 4: Members of Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Sabha today laid wreath at the memorial of braveheart Hav Chuni Lal Sandhu in village Tacharwan, on his 18th martyrdom day.
Speaking on the occasion, JKBS’ general secy R L Kaith said, “We are proud of Hav Chuni Lal Sandhu and his achievements. He was the number 1 soldier of the Indian Army, who after eliminating three militants, was martyred in a militant flush out operation in Kashmir’s Pulwama Sector in December, 2007. Later on, he had Sena Medal (posthumously) and under the orders of President of India, the mention of his name in a dispatch by the Chief of Army Staff, was published in the Gazette of India 2008 for displaying most conspicuous bravery, demonstrating battle field leadership and laying down his life.”
Speakers on the occasion said that it is very important to remember the sacrifices of the brave soldiers, who fought for the sovereignty of the nation and also laid down their lives for the country.
Those who spoke, included Subedar Major Ram Paul Motan (Retd), Subedar Major Baldev Chand Sandhu (Retd), Havildar Ghari Lal Lakhotra (Retd), Jagdish Raj Kaith, Puran Chand Sandhu, Surinder Kumar Sandhu, Subash Chander, Des Raj Motan and Ramesh Lal Kaith.
Hav Tashooq Ahmad and Hav Dev Dutt from 9 JAKLI were special invitees on the occasion. The participants also passed a resolution urging the Government to name a school or road or building after the martyr.
