JAMMU, Nov 8: Various bodies of farmers met here, today to discuss the pathetic scenario created due to non availability of fertilizers sowing wheat in Jammu. The meeting was held under the leadership of Tajinder Singh Wazir, president JK Kissan Council (JKKC).
Addressing the meeting Wazir made an appeal to Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha to look into the serious issue of dwindling stocks of fertilizers in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of continued suspension of freight trains from different parts of India by agitation of farmers in Punjab. He said though the farmer community was appreciative of the efforts made by Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production, Naveen Kumar Choudhary and Controller Fertilizers , JK UT, Inderjeet Kumar by applying their sources but it failed to get result on ground and even one bag of DAP is not available which has created the confusion and anger among farmers.
He appealed the LG to sort out the matter as the need of hour is that when fertilizer companies are ready to deliver Fertilizers in Harayana by train then Government should transport it by road or using the services of SRTC or any other medium to transport to transport it to every district of JK UT for timely sowing of wheat to ease the tension of farmers. Moreover, he asserted that if Central Government after abolishing of Article 370 could launch Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for Kashmiri Apple to solve the problems of fruit growers there why couldn’t similar steps be taken in Jammu to help farmers tide over their crisis.
Farmers also appealed that funds under various Centrally sponsored schemes were not released till date due to official hiccups of Finance Department of JK UT and as the third quarter of financial year is on the end what will be the benefit of these schemes. Farmers appealed to LG for a special meeting with Agriculture Production Department and Finance Department to end problem of timely release of funds. They said tractor a most beneficial product for farmers is to be made tax free in JK on pattern of Punjab and all token taxes etc to abolished on registration of tractors.
