SRINAGAR, Apr 17: The J&K Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCC) today warned of boycotting the work in case the Government fails in releasing their pending bills while it also criticised the administration for making the renewal of contractor cards tough and hectic by making police verification mandatory for the same.
JKCCC’s Ghulam Jeelani Purza said that there is an issue concerning the renewal of contractor cards which they are facing apart from the non-payment of bills pending for the last several years.
“To press for the release of payment and change in the rules for renewal, we will be protesting across J&K and with that, the protests will be intensified,” he said, adding after Eid, JKCCC will boycott the works after Eid.
JKPCC said that apart from the non-payment of bills, pending for the last several years, there is also a ban on raw material; we want to ask the administration how we are going to continue the work when there is no raw material.
It said that all the associations-which are a part of the Coordination Committee -in all the divisions of J&K will carry out a protest on April 19 against the callousness of the Government with regard to the redressal of their issues.
Regarding the renewal of the contractor cards, the JKCCC said that the administration is coming up with new rules and regulations every day and this time, the police verification has been made mandatory for the renewal of the contractors’ cards.
“We have been renewing our contractor cards for the last 40 years and now they are telling us to get the necessary clearances from the police department. Are we terrorists? We are just doing our work. They are bringing in new rules every day,” Purza said.
He said that if there will be a delay in the execution of developmental works across J&K, “the sole responsibility lies with the Government for that because working for us has been made difficult.”
