*Calls for 72 hours strike in J&K UT

JAMMU, Feb 13: Expressing strong resentment against the move of the Government to induct a retiree as Executive Director in PDD, the Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) today resolved to go for three days strike.
In a meeting of the JKEEGA held here today, members of the Guidance Council an apex body of the Graduate Engineers of Power Development Department participated in full strength, with special invitees Munshi Majid Ali, president JKEEGA among other Chief Engineers/Superintending Engineers from JKEEGA Kashmir Unit also participated via online mode with Jammu unit led by Sachin Tickoo, general secretary. Members expressed strong resentment over the purported move of the Government to induct retired or a retiring professional on his superannuation as Executive Director, JKPDD.
It is pertinent to mention that Executive Director is a position that is a Gazetted Engineering cadre promotion vacancy existing in cadre strength of Gazetted service in JKPDD. Three more positions of Executive Directors have been created vide GO No 11-JK(PDD) of 2022 Dated-08/02/2022 after long battle between association and the Government since last two years.
It is astonishing that despite no dearth of senior Engineers who are working as Executive Directors /Chief Engineers for nearly more than 5 years as Executive Director/Chief Engineers and performing well, what are the compulsions that Government is contemplating to induct a retiring/retired person as Executive Director. It is beyond any comprehension that how a person who is retiring and was junior most in seniority among the serving lot of the Chief Engineers is given the re-employment as Executive Director on contractual basis. This shall invite strong stir across Jammu and Kashmir from all rank and file of the department.
Guidance Council resolved that all the official information/correspondence through all means even through that is transmitted through WhatsApp groups and also on the social media handles shall be immediately stopped for 72 hours from midnight on Feb 14 at 00:00 Hours to start with, and Executive body has been mandated to chalk out the protest programme whatever deemed fit in consultation with the other associations of the PDD so that this proposal is shelved in nascent stage itself and confrontation is avoided.
JKEEGA appealed the Government to shelve such controversial issues and take up the promotion at all levels from AE to CE as hundreds of vacancies are lying vacant in the department and the administrative efficiency is being compromised on account of the additional charge. It further resolves that the vacant positions of Executive Director be filled from amongst the senior most sitting Chief Engineers.
