JAMMU, May 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Ex-Services League (JKESL) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) under the Chairmanship of Ex-MLC and its president, Dogra Rattan Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal.
The meeting was attended by members including district and tehsil presidents and 10 Veer Naries. The district presidents projected various problems faced by them including difficulties in renewal of Driving and Gun licenses. The aged veterans also projected insensitive attitude of civil servants towards the senior citizen among the veterans.
The JKESL president in his address appreciated the Government of India for the release of OROP and expressed hope that the anomalies in the OROP order and those of the 7th Pay Commission will be resolved soon.
He further hoped that the soldiers who give their best years to the nation and retire young will get their genuine dues. The meeting in one voice took exception to the statement made by the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about declining the land for Sanik Colony in the Kashmir valley, since it may accommodate ‘Indians’.
In one voice the aggrieved members projected that the State Government should at least speed up land acquisition for the JKESL Fauji Colonies which are designed and committed to accommodate only the J&K State Subjects from among the three services. He said that only 163 kanals land has been acquired by the State out of 3600 kanals promised in 2000 for which Rs 36 crores have been deposited with the Government while not a single house could be built so far.
Other points that came up for discussion include non-implementation of 6% Reservation Policy, exorbitant penal VAT on CSD Canteens and non-revival of the Sainik Vanaspati Cooperative.
Brig Anil Gupta, chairman, BJP Ex-Servicemen Cell and its spokesperson assured support from the coalition Government and asked ESM together as one united entity.
The meeting was also attended by Brig SS Sambyal, vice president, Brig Raj Singh, Brig RL Sharma and Brig Manmohan Harjai, CEO, Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Specialty Hospital.
