JAMMU, Dec 19: Jammu-Kashmir Feature Film Producer-Director Association (JKFFPDA) held its first press conference today, outlining key concerns and demands of local filmmakers, particularly the need for special incentives to encourage and support the regional film industry.
JKFFPDA president Jayesh Gupta addressed the media alongside the Association’s office bearers, including vice-presidents Rajesh Raja, Bikram Singh and Rakesh Chalotra; general secretary and treasurer NK Phul; general secretary Rajan Bhan; secretaries Parvej Mir and Ashok Sharma; and publicity secretary Vinod Jaral.
In his address, Gupta said that regional filmmakers in Jammu and Kashmir have produced numerous feature films over the years that were widely appreciated by the local audience. However, he expressed concern that an unfavorable regional film policy and insufficient Government support have prevented these films from becoming profitable, thereby demotivating local filmmakers.
To address these issues, Gupta urged the State Government to amend the J&K Film Policy to provide tangible benefits for local filmmakers. He proposed that the Government offer a lump-sum grant for every film produced locally that passes censor board approval and is released in theatres.
Additionally, Gupta emphasized the importance of Government-sponsored hoardings to promote regional films and called for the establishment of special theaters dedicated to screening regional cinema. He also requested that theatre owners in the state prioritize the screening of regional films to encourage their growth and viewership.
During the event, the Association announced the upcoming release of a thrilling Hindi feature film, Jammu 86 Gangwar. Directed by Rajesh Raja and produced by Purshotam, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on December 20. The JKFFPDA representatives appealed to the people of J&K to show their support for the movie, which promises to be a blend of entertainment and thrill. They revealed that 95% of the cast comprises local talent from J&K, with Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor adding star power to the project.
