SRINAGAR, Dec 2: Amid the ongoing debate on reservation policy, the Jammu and Kashmir General Category Forum (JKGCF) today called for a census-based reservation policy,
Addressing a press conference, the forum called for reservations to be distributed proportionally to the population of various categories, ensuring the general category receives a fair share.
One of the forum’s members, Aftab Ahmad Andrabi argued that a population-based reservation would provide accurate demographic representation, address societal inequalities, and promote social justice.
“This will cater to the diverse needs of society,” he said, while urging the Government to address the growing dissatisfaction among open merit candidates.
He said that the issue has led to the division in public opinion, with many questioning the fairness of the current reservation system, “which points to the need for a census-based reservation policy.”
