Srinagar, Mar 24: While hailing the LG Administration for framing the rules under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the J&K Handicapped Association (JKHA) today demanded enhancement of the monthly pension of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
President, JKHA Abdul Rashid Bhat said that the association welcomes the framing of rules to ensure smooth implementation of the central law, aiming at promoting and protecting the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities in various aspects of life.
“I thank LG, Principal Secretary Social Welfare Department, Secretary Social Welfare Department, Director Social Welfare Department Jammu for fulfilling one of our genuine demand,” he said.
At the same time, he said, that the JKHA appeals to the Chief Commissioner For Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of India as well as the LG Manoj Sinha to enhance the monthly pension of Persons with disabilities from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 per month.
“The prices of essential commodities have gone up and a person with disabilities can’t fulfil his daily needs,” he said.
He also said that there is a need for creating jobs for unemployed youth of J&K, apart from that there is a need for surveying persons with disabilities. “We also demand implementation of various Yojanas of Rural Development Department and the reservation in jobs be implemented vertically rather than horizontally,” he said.
