JKHB developing new residential colonies for houseless people: Bhalla

JAMMU, Sept 20: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today said that Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board (JKHB) has prepared a new comprehensive plan to create modern line infrastructure facilities in urban as well as rural pockets of the State like recreational park, parking slot, playfield, super bazaars, culverts and surface drain drainage system.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a large gathering at Channi Rama in W. No. 49 near Shiv Temple after laying foundation stone of 100 feet two culverts and long deep drain, here today.
Managing Director Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board Ram Pal Sharma besides senior officers of PHE, JKHB, PDD and R&B accompanied the Minister.
Mr. Bhalla informed that both the projects would be completed within stipulated time frame at an estimated cost of Rs. 72.40 lakh by executing agency JKHB. He said people of Channi Rama and its adjoining areas have faced lot of hardships due to non-availability of drainage system in the area. He said on the construction of culverts -cum -deep drain, the surface drainage problem of the people would be solved to a large extent.
Responding to the demand of locals, the Minister announced Rs. 15 lakh for development of local recreation parks of Channi Rama. The places would be developed with walkway, illumination, sitting arrangements, sprinkle system besides water storage reservoirs.
Mr. Bhalla asked the officers to prepare the inventory of Housing Board assets, besides available land across the State, adding that Government was keen to develop new colonies as per the master plan under self-financing schemes. He stressed the need to put the assets of the board to best use and revenue generation. He stressed the need for evolving modernized techniques for creating JKHB assets.
The Minister stressed the need for developing more residential colonies in the new areas for accommodating the houseless people. He asked to lay stress on evolving innovative measures to further tone up the functioning of JKHB to make it a competitive and profit earning organization as per its mandate. He impressed upon the functionaries of the Housing Board to facelift and maintain its assets properly and also to step up efforts to improve the revenue generation.
Mr. Bhalla gave its nod to some new initiatives of the Housing Board which include development of colonies at Dhani Dhar Rajouri, Battal Wallian, Udhampur, Meen Charkan in Samba, Kathua and Mujgund in Srinagar.
Regarding modernisation of Pamposh Colony nallah with slab, the Minister informed that Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) has prepared a detailed project report of Rs. 5 crore for training the ‘barsati nallah’, adding that the project would be started soon after completing the tendering formalities.
