SRINAGAR, Aug 31: Assistant Regional Transport Officer Srinagar, Syed Farhana Azgar, announced today that the department has introduced nearly 24 online services, aiming to enhance convenience and accessibility for the people.
During the Digital India Week program in Srinagar, she emphasized the significant progress made by the Transport Department of Motor Vehicles (MVD) in Jammu and Kashmir. “Services such as vehicle registration, issuance of driving licences, and payment of road taxes were seamlessly transitioned into the digital realm. This not only streamlined the process but also significantly reduced the need for in-person visits, resulting in a substantial decline in footfall at various MVD offices,” she said.
Azgar also highlighted a major breakthrough, the implementation of an online portal for the renewal of driving licences and vehicle registrations. “This eliminated the need for individuals to queue up at offices, sparing them from long waiting times and bureaucratic hassles. Moreover, the introduction of digital payment options further expedited transactions, promoting a cashless and efficient system,” she said.
Furthermore, Azgar emphasised that the MVD’s efforts extended beyond digitization, including the introduction of a mobile application providing users with quick access to vehicle records, fines, and other relevant details. “This user-friendly app empowers citizens by putting crucial information at their fingertips,” she said.
To address vehicle theft and enhance security, Azgar mentioned the initiation of an online system for reporting lost or stolen vehicles that seamlessly integrated with law enforcement agencies, aiding in swift recovery efforts and discouraging criminal activities.
Azgar also highlighted the department’s use of technology to improve road safety, mentioning the installation of automated traffic management systems, including surveillance cameras and electronic toll collection.
