JAMMU, Jan 25: Jammu and Kashmir Police has bagged the maximum number of gallantry honours with 126 medals on the occasion of the 71st Republic Day.
The officers of Jammu and Kashmir Police bagged 3 President’s Police Medals for Gallantry, 105 Police Medals for Gallantry, 2 President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 16 Police Medals for Meritorious Service.
The tally for the Union Territory police, thickly involved in counter-terrorist operations in the Kashmir valley, also includes three President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG), out of the total four of these top category decorations announced this time.
Jammu and Kashmir is the only Union Territory across the country, whose three officers bagged President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) as no officer/official from any other States or Union Territories bagged this prestigious medal.
It is one of the highest tally of gallantry medals won by a police force in recent times.
These police bravery awards are declared bi-annually on the eve of Republic Day and Independence Day.
Those, who bagged President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) are SSP Abdul Jabbar, DySP Ghulam Hassan Sheikh and Constable Asif Iqbal Qureshi.

Meanwhile, President of India has conferred Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards 2019 to five persons hailing from Jammu and Kashmir.
Packiya Raj M has conferred with Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, while Mohammad Younis Awan, Zakir Hussain, Maqsood Ahmed and Shabir Ahmad Dar gets Jeevan Raksha Padak.
