SRINAGAR, June 19: Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad today said that welfare of police wards is one of the top most priorities of the organisation to infuse spirit of competition among them and boost their morale. He said that various welfare schemes have been introduced to inspire police wards towards the quality education enabling to compete in competitive examinations and sports events.
Mr. Prasad said this while reviewing scholarship schemes for police wards at a meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. He said that the organization, realizing its responsibility to help the families of martyrs, has been providing scholarship to their school going children enabling them to continue their education. In the Police Public Schools established at range headquarters in the State, these wards are provided free education with hostel facilities, said the DGP.
Elaborating the assistance provided under various scholarship schemes, Mr. Prasad said that during the current year till date more than Rs. 25 lakh have been sanctioned and distributed among 583 police wards. This include meritorious scholarships for 195 wards of serving police personnel, 41 school going children of deceased personnel and 93 wards of martyrs. He said that 9 wards, who qualified competitive examinations or secured position in national sports events have also been benefited under the scheme, besides 121 wards of serving police personnel have been rewarded for their excellent performance in their academics.
The DGP said that the Organization is aware about the hardships faced by the police personnel in view of their nature of duty. He said that the “men in khaki” remains out of their homes and have not sufficient time to take care of their wards. He said the violence of more than two decades also left the families of our martyrs, especially the children in a desperate condition and the Organization is committed to provide a succour in the form of financial assistance to these families.
He stressed upon the parents to pay proper attention of the studies of their children, besides their professional duties because the future of a nation lies with the upcoming generations. He said that quality education has assumed more importance in the present days and every child has to perform better and make his future brighter.
