JAMMU, May 9: In a determined effort to combat the bovine smuggling menace, the Jammu & Kashmir Police have intensified actions under Operation Kamdhenu, targeting vehicles repeatedly used in such illegal activities.
SSP Jammu Dr Vinod Kumar has taken a significant step by writing to the Transport Commissioner of J&K, urging the blacklisting of vehicles involved in three or more instances of bovine smuggling.
To date, 20 vehicles have been identified as repeat offenders in the Jammu District, with multiple FIRs registered across various police stations under relevant sections of the law.
The police have shared a detailed list of these vehicles and the cases registered against each with the Transport Commissioner’s office for further action.
Bovine smuggling poses a serious risk to the region’s peace and tranquility, often sparking communal tensions and leading to unpleasant situations.
The J&K Police’s proactive stance highlights their commitment to addressing this issue robustly.
From the beginning of the year until the end of April, five smugglers have already been booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) for repeated offenses, underscoring the authorities’ resolve to curb this disruptive activity.
