KATHUA, Sept 23:  The apathy and arbitrary action of the Labour Commissioner in shifting ESI Dispensary functioning since more than a decade in industrial area Kathua and handing over of the same to IMO MDDC Kathua (ESIC) was strongly resented by hundreds of industrial workers of Kathua today.
The demonstration was held under the leadership of State President JKPDTU Suresh Sharma which was organized by its District. Unit leaders Manohar Singh, Randip Jasrotia, Bupinder Singh. Hundreds of industrial workers were raising slogans against the State Government demanding that the dispensary established more than a decade ago in this area should not be shifted at any cost. Addressing the workers Mr Sharma warned the authorities at the helm of affairs not to take decisions in isolation without  consultation of the stakeholders (workers), District. administration and JKPDTU leaders and demanded retention of the same without any fail.
He lauded the role of the laborers /workers of the area who have mustered courage to raise the voice and extended full support to them on this and others issues. “We know the tactics of the industrial employers to prevent demonstrations” he said .He warned the industrial managements for harassing the laborers and preventing them from exercising their right of demonstration under trade Union Act. He questioned the rational in winding up of the present dispensary when it was catering to the medical need of more than 200 industrial workers daily.
He said with the shifting of this infrastructure the workers have to travel/cross busy National Highway to reach new establishment over a distance of more than 3 kms.
He demanded that the present dispensary should not be dislocated and any move to modernize the same should be in addition to this. He appealed Deputy Commissioner Zahida Khan to personally intervene to safeguard the interest of the workers. He cautioned the administration against the decision and warned that JKPDTU will “block the National Highway” in protest, sit on “relay fast” and the  Government will be responsible for all consequences.
Pardeep Singh Samyal Distt. President JKPDTU Samba also addressed the workers. A massive protest rally was taken out from ceramic complex to main road Hatli Mode.
