JKRCEA appeals CM to restore reservation in promotions

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, May 1: Jammu Kashmir Reserve Categories Employees Association (JKRCEA) held executive body meeting under the chairmanship of its president Dr Sanjay Bhasin.
In the meeting, the participants sought intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to restore reservation in promotions which was otherwise available to the employees of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Resident of Backward Area (RBA), Actual Line of Control (ALC), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories.
The leaders of JKRCEA have said that few selected people are hell bent to damage the cause of more than 85 per cent population of J&K when they claimed that reservation has infringed into their constitutional rights as according to them the reserve categories in J&K have been granted to the people across the line of religions and social groups like Brahmins, Rajputs, Mahajans and others who come from RBA and ALC categories thus restricting the idea of reservation to only one or two social groups is not justified.
Dr Sanjay Bhasin while speaking said that it is very unfortunate that on one side after scraping of reservation in promotions and the Section 6 of Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act 2004 and Rules 9, 10 and 34 Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Rules 2005 by J&K High Court, the State Government which was also a party in this case didn’t even try to go to defend its own Act and on the other side, when the aggrieved employees of various reserve categories challenged the J&K High Court verdict before Apex court and granted interim relief in the form of stay, the same has been grossly misinterpreted which clearly showed the concern and commitment of Government towards the people of reserved categories. This is sheer biased stand of Govt machineries against the interests of SC, ST, OBCs, RBA and ALC categories people. He added that practically the reservation stand snatched and when the MLAs highlighted issues, one section of our society criticized them, thus the present Government should take an urgent call on this socio-political issue.
Dr Zabeer Ahmed, general secretary of JKRCEA, Roshan Din Choudhary, Executive Member of JKRCEA, RC Bhasin, Bodh Raj Bhagat Vice President, All India Bhagat Maha Sabha, Kuldeep Manhan, SP Parihar, besides many others also spoke on the occasion.
