JAMMU, Oct 31: Projecting their demands like regularisation of consolidated employees and implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations, the J&K Road Transport Corporation workers today held strong protest demonstration here today.
A large number of Road Transport workers, led by its Chairman Wajahat Hussain and provincial general secretary Dilbagh Singh, under the banner of J&K Road Transport Corporation Workers Union assembled at Maharaja Hari Singh Park at the Bank of river Tawi and started massive protest demonstration against the UT Administration. Carrying placards in their hands, the workers were shouting slogans in support of their demands.
Wajahat Hussain while addressing protesting workers said that all the Departments and most of the Corporations in the J&K were provided benefit of 7th Pay Pay Commissioner but a very few Corporations including JKRTC were deprived of this benefit which is totally unfair and biased on the part of Government.
He further said that after rendering eight years of service, consolidated workers/drivers of JKRTC should have been regularized but unfortunately scores of workers have completed 9 to 14 years of service but they are not being regularized. They are made to work on the meager wages of Rs 8000 to Rs 12000 per month. The JKRTC earned a record revenue of Rs 194 crores last year but the hapless workers are being exploited and forced to work on the meager consolidated salary. They are still working with the hope to get regularized one day, Wajahat added.
Vice Chairman Mohd Farooq, senior vice president Anchal Bakshi, vice president Jagdish Singh strongly demanded implementation of 7th Pay Commission and release of pending DA of 83 % as the employees of the Corporation are presently getting 139 %DA only against against the sanctioned DA of 221 %.
Similar protest demonstration was held at Srinagar by the JKRTC employees which was led by Union leaders-Mohd Yousuf Khan and Ghulam Nabi Wani.
The JKRTC Union leaders cautioned the Management of the Corporation to address their issues without much delay otherwise, the workers will be forced to launch pen down, tool down and even total strike across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
