J&K’s ace shooter Chain Singh wins silver in World Cup

JAMMU, May 23: Extending his brilliant run after missing a medal by a whisker in the recently held Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, J&K’s seasoned shooter Chain Singh won a silver medal in the men’s 50m Rifle Prone event at ISSF World Cup at Munich in Germany, shooting a score of 627.9 to finish behind USA’s Matthew Emmons, who took gold with a score of 628.9.
With this outstanding achievement, Chain Singh, son of Maan Singh, hailing from Village Chancer, Gandoh, Bhalessa in district Doda, has once again kept the State’s flag high at the International scene.
Mr Singh has the distinction of winning a galaxy of medals at the National and International scene.
Meanwhile, Tejaswini Sawant nailed a gold in the women’s 50m Rifle Prone event on the opening day.
Sawant shot 621.4 to pip younger teammate Anjum Moudgil, who shot 621.2 to win Silver in the event.
Sawant had won a Gold at the recently-concluded Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Among other Indian shooters, Shreya Saxena finished ninth in the women’s Prone event with a score of 619.1 while in the men’s event, Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput shot scores of 621.7 and 621.2 to end in 32nd and 34th positions respectively.
The trio of Apurvi Chandela, Mehuli Ghosh and Anjum Moudgil will spearhead India’s challenge in the women’s 10m air rifle, first of the 10 Olympic event finals.
