J&K’s all villages now ‘ODF+ Model’

The Chief Secretary of J&K declared all 6,650 villages in 285 blocks of the UT to have achieved the status of ‘ODF+ Model’ category villages, signifying their freedom from open defecation and the implementation of proper waste disposal mechanisms. Jammu and Kashmir has managed to accomplish this. The dream of a clean and hygienic India, as envisioned by Prime Minister Modi through the Swachh Bharat initiative, has been pursued relentlessly. The concerted efforts put into achieving this goal have led to a transformation in rural India, with open defecation, a major concern, has been substantially addressed.
Jammu and Kashmir, despite unique and ongoing challenges, has managed to reach this milestone. This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire team involved. The success can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including Panchayati Raj Institutions, the District Administration, and different departments. Their synchronised actions have played a vital role in achieving the set target. It’s important to recognise that maintaining cleanliness is an ongoing process that requires constant innovation and adaptability. The success stories witnessed in various regions, including some within Jammu and Kashmir, have highlighted the potential of well-planned waste disposal schemes. Such schemes not only contribute to proper waste management but also have the potential to yield economic benefits for the community. By effectively managing waste and turning it into a valuable resource, there is an opportunity to generate monetary returns while also contributing to environmental sustainability.
Looking ahead, it is hoped that the momentum achieved thus far will continue. With appropriate guidance and sustained efforts, there is potential for even greater accomplishments in the future. The dedication and teamwork demonstrated in achieving the ‘ODF+ Model’ status should serve as a foundation for further positive changes and advancements in various sectors in the region.
