JAMMU, Oct 21: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) an organisation of DPs of 1947 from PoK made an appeal to the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to take up the DPs final settlement issues as assured in Dec 19, 2020 meeting with Amit Shah, Home Minister of India on his ensuing visit on Oct 22, 2021.
JKSAC also requested both the MPs, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Dr Jitendra Singh as well as Ravinder Raina and other BJP leaders to impress upon, Amit Shah to accept and implement the JPC Report No. 183 which has recommended Rs 30 lakhs ex-gratia to each DP family besides reservation for their wards and other components till the GoI takes the final call to resolve the PoK issue which is under illegal occupation of Pakistan.
While addressing a meeting at RS Pura, Gurdev Singh, president JKSAC along with Dwarka Nath Khajuria, Capt Puran Singh, Joginder Lal and Bagwan Singh complimented, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister for providing a relief package which certainly gave some respite to DPs and added that it cannot be accepted as final settlement as this package is nowhere near the loss of lives and properties the DPs has suffered. He said that JKSAC always pressed hard the Central Govt to register the claims of their left-out properties in PoK and simultaneously its compensation there of, but the Central Govt did not agree on the plea that acceptance of registration of claims would be inconsistent to the constitutional stand taken by GoI over PoK.
Any step in this regard could give rise to the feeling to the international forum that GoI has given up the hope for the return of the areas under illegal occupation of Pakistan. He said that repeated assurance made in parliament by GoI since 1994 that the area under illegal possession of Pakistan would be restored back, but unfortunately it is still confined to the files and no follow-up action has been taken either diplomatically or militarily. He said if the Govt really intends to settle DPs then it shall have to accept alternative available with them. He said that DPs cannot be kept waiting for another seven decades as their three generations have passed struggling for their legitimate and constitutional rights.
He also appealed to both the Hon’ble MPs and Pradesh BJP leaders to play their role in projecting the DPs issue pending for redressal from the last several decades as it is the most appropriate time.
