JAMMU, Jan 31: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) has strongly condemned the J&K Government for closure of the one-time settlement scheme in respect of Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947, 1965 and 1971 from PoK.
The issue was discussed in a meeting held at village Manna in tehsil R S Pura. The speaker gave reference of the notification number DIP/J-12310/21 dated 28-01-2022 appeared in media for closure of the one-time settlement scheme in respect of DPs from PoK 1965. They termed the notification as arbitrary, illogical and mischievous.
Addressing the meeting, Gurdev Singh JKSAC president (Sub-district RS Pura) along with Bagwan Singh, Capt Puran Singh Chib, Suram Singh Chib, Tarlok Singh Tara and Dwarka Nath Khajuria said that the Government has been approached right from Divisional Commissioner to Chief Secretary of J&K since 2019 to extend the scheme to accommodate thousands of left-out families for want of mandatory records, essential to establish the status of DPs.
He particularly condemned the Special Secretary DMRRR to say that entire number of families of PoJK have been covered under the scheme. “The statement made in the notification is totally false, misleading and away from the truth,” Gurdev said. He stated that ex-gratia relief of Rs 5.5 lakhs was provided to 36,384 DPs families including 26,319 families from PoK and 10,065 of 1965 and 1971 wars. He said that out 26,319 families from PoK settled in UT of J&K, relief has been disbursed only to about 20,000 families and about 1,000 cases including disputed cases are still pending.
Gurdev made a humble appeal to the administration to withdraw this mischievous/ illogical notification immediately otherwise DPs would be left with no option except to sit on dharna on February 9 outside the Governor House to apprise the Lt Governor about the notification and its repercussions.
