JAMMU, Dec 11: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) members held brief protest over the denial of 8 Assembly seats to the Displaced Persons (DPs) from the Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) here today.
Referring to the passage of Bill in the Union Parliament, reserving two seats for KPs and and only one seat for the DPs of 1947 from PoJK, they said that DPs have been meted out grave injustice. They demanded review of the decision by the BJP Government.
Earlier, in a meeting of its all Tehsil and District units at Lower Gadi Grah in Jammu DPs expressed views with regard to passage of the bill wherein two seats have been nominated for Kashmiri migrants and only a single seat for DPs of 1947 from POJK in J&K assembly despite of having their own constitutional share of 8 seats. Besides the executive members of all the units some prominent DPs of Jammu region including Ravinder Singh (Ex-Dir Edu), Col (Retd) Kundan Khajuria, Col ( Retd) Ravinder Sharma and Dr Aman (Ex-.Secy Cultural Academy).
All the participants strongly condemned the Central Govt for causing great humiliation to DPs of 1947 from POJK by reserving only one seat instead of 8 seats which have also been recommended by JPC on Home Affairs. They condemned the Pradesh BJP for not projecting the issue in the right perspective as requested many times and contrary misled the Central Govt. All the heads of JKSAC’s units and other prominent invitees termed this move of Central Govt as most unfortunate, illogical, lacking justification and gross injustice with the DP community who is a savior of J&K and have played a vital role in its overall development.
Later the participants held a protest to express their resentment and appealed to President of India to return the bill to Govt. for revision and allow DPs representatives to present their views in this regard before giving final assent to the bill representation has been mailed to her.
Gurdev Singh, president besides senior members Ajeet Singh, Dev Saroop and Capt. Puran Singh Chib also addressed the gathering.
