JAMMU, Nov 16: A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) met the Minister for Law, Relief and Rehabilitation Sayeed Basharat Bukhari here today and apprised him about the view point regarding the package announced by the Prime Minister for the displaced persons of 1947 from PoK.
Led by Gurdev Singh, president of the SAC, the members expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and  Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed for announcing the package  and earmarking Rs 2000 crore for disbursement. They said though this package is peanut and DPs are disillusioned and dismayed yet it has positive reaffirm commitment of the PM who had promised to give more funds to resolve the issue.
While presenting their view point regarding one time settlement which has never been spelled out by any of the Govt, Gurdev Singh said that DPs have many-fold problems pertaining to State and Central Govt which could be taken up on priority  and could only be resolved by mutual coordination and honest and constructive  political will of both the Governments.
He said that to compensate  DPs for loss of moveable and non-moveable   properties, previous Coalition Govt of NC and Congress has recommended a package of Rs 9096 crore as Rs 25 lakh to each DP family for 36,384 families viz-a- viz 26319 families from PoK (1947) and 10,065 families of 1965 and 1971. The package was returned by Central Govt with the queries that package lacks the proper justification and also 5300 families of DPs from PoK settled outside the State were not reflected in the package. He regretted that no response has been given by the State Govt till date despite the repeated reminders by the Central Govt. he also apprised the Minister about recommendation sof JPC for settlement of PoK DPs.
