JKSC organizes seminar on ‘75 yrs of accession of J&K with India’

JAMMU, Oct 28: Jammu-Kashmir Study Centre, in collaboration with Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu, organized a seminar on “75 Years of Accession of Jammu Kashmir: Internal and External Dynamics”, here today.
Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, Prof Naresh Padha was chief guest on the occasion. He said that J&K was incomplete without the Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). He added that it is hightime to implementation 1994 resolution of the Parliament to liberate the areas of Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by Pakistan and China.
Director DSRS, Dr Virender Koundal, introduced theme of the seminar and main speakers Dr Ganesh Malhotra, Dr Mohd. Monir Alam and Dr Ajay Sharma.
In his presentation, titled “Instrument of Accession and Events Thereafter” Dr Ganesh Malhotra, brought to the notice of the audience “various legal aspects on accession of J&K in the Indian Union”. He also highlighted “the role of Maharaja Hari Singh in signing the instrument of accession.
In his presentation, titled “Understanding Sectarian Conflict in Gilgit Baltistan”, Dr Mohd Monir Alam argued that Pakistan policies especially during Zia-ul-Haq’s Islamisation process and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s State Resident Law in 1972 led to opening of Madrassas, Deobandi and Wahabi influence in Gilgit-Baltist that gave the locals a fear that Punjabi Sunni people will be settled in the area.
In his presentation, titled “Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir: Displaced Persons-their legal status and human right violations”, Dr Ajay Sharma, said that during Pakistan’s aggression of 1947, Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, and few tehsils of Poonch that came under Pakistan’s control is called as PoJK and the people who were displaced from their territories are called as PoJK displaced persons. Displacement has resulted into their social-economic and political marginilisation. Majority of PoJK displaced persons are living in J&K while a few families were settled outside J&K by then Government.
The JKSC is a think tank dedicated to the research on Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, and occupied territories of the State of J&K. The JKSC is also involved in the research of the human rights violations in the PoJK and GB.
Former Director General DRDO, Dr Sudharshan Sharma, Prof K L Bhatia, Prof Prakash Anthal, Prof Vinay Chauhan, Prof Sindhu Kapoor, Karuna Chettri, Arun Choudhary, Satpal Sharma, many eminent academicians, journalists, members of the civil society and students attended the seminar. Er Shail Sharma presented vote of thanks while Vasundra Raje conducted the proceedings.
