JKSUF asks Centre to approve refugees’ package

JAMMU, Oct 18: The J&K Sikh United Front (JKSUF) has urged the Union Cabinet to accord its approval to the package for POJK refugees, the proposal of which was cleared by the State Cabinet on Thursday.
Talking to reporters here today, the general secretary of the organization Avtar Singh Khalsa also reminded to the State Government the long pending demand of Sikh community regarding grant of reservation to the Sikh community on the analogy of reservations granted to other disadvantaged communities like the Pahari speaking people.
While expressing their pleasure over the approval of package for refugees by the State Government Khalsa said that the demand has been raised from time to time from various organizations and personalities and Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch has led a jail Baro Andolan in this regard which was led by Mahant Bachitar Singh Ji.
The Sikh community, while acknowledging the contribution of all organizations in this regard also complimented them for continuing their struggle for the rights of refugees for years together.
He said under the leadership of Mahant Manjit Singh Ji, head Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch they community has raised the two major demands one was permanent and one time settlement of refugees and other was the reservations to the Sikh community. He said while the first demand was met the second demand also needs to be settled on priority basis.
