JAMMU, Feb 25:  Agitating against their adjustment in far-flung areas, surplus Masters of Jammu district today held a strong protest demonstration outside the Directorate of School Education.
The protest demonstration, organized under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum, was led by Abdul Qayoom Wani and Ganesh Khajuria.
Even as the JKTF had earlier announced a two-day chain hunger strike at the Directorate from today, the same could not be observed as Police did not allow the agitating Masters to enter the DSEJ premises.
The bad weather and heavy posse of Police forced the agitating Masters to change the programme. Shouting slogans against alleged dictatorial attitude of the Education authorities, the protesting Masters held a protest demonstration in front of the Directorate premises.
MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta also visited the protesting Masters and expressed his solidarity with the latter. He agreed with the Masters that their adjustment orders were made in haste and the same should be reviewed.
While addressing the gathering, Abdul Qayoom Wani warned the education authorities to desist from suppressing the legitimate voice of teaching community, who is fighting for its rights. He appealed the Chief Secretary and Secretary Education to intervene personally and resolve the issue in favour of the Masters, who have been made surplus by the previous Government.
Ganesh Khajuria also addressed the protesting Masters and appealed the higher authorities to intervene for suitable adjustment of the surplus Masters. The Forum will take to streets if the grievances of teaching community are not addressed, he warned.
Other who addressed the gathering, included Rajinder Gupta, Gopal Singh, Jamat Ali Agha, Raj Singh, Surat Singh Toofani, Darshan Sharma, S Ravinder Singh, Rajesh Slathia, Fozia, Monika Sharma, Kamini Kumari, Shankar Singh and  Vinod Uppal.
Meanwhile, J&K United School Teachers Association has also expressed its reservation over the adjustment of Masters, Lecturers and Headmasters in remote areas despite the fact that they had already served in far-flung districts. The Association has also demanded a high level probe to identify the persons responsible for the present mess in the Education Department and initiating action against the guilty.
These issues were raised during a meeting of the Association, held here today under the chairmanship of Hari Singh, provincial president. The meet demanded suitable adjustment of repatriated masters and lecturers,  release of  long pending salary  of teachers working under various schemes, adjustment of masters and lecturers whose DPC has already been made, filling up of  vacant posts in Education Department and debarring teachers from non-teaching duties , etc.
