UDHAMPUR, Aug 4: Jammu Kashmir Teachers’ Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC) has called upon the LG administration to urgently address the pressing issues faced by the teaching fraternity in the Union Territory.
In their monthly meeting led by UT president Vinod Sharma and district president Udhampur Lekh Raj Parihar, JKTJAC leaders emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms and immediate action to resolve long-standing concerns affecting thousands of teachers. Representatives from all 11 zones of the district attended the meeting.
Vinod Sharma highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive transfer policy for teachers appointed under the ReT scheme, who have been working in the same schools for over two decades. He emphasized that the lack of a transfer policy has particularly affected female teachers and urged the Principal Secretary of School Education to consider this genuine demand and include these teachers in the Annual Transfer Drive (ATD).
Sharma also demanded the conversion of head teachers’ posts into non-plan posts of masters to ensure justice for many headless middle schools. Additionally, he appealed to the Director of School Education Jammu to issue regularization orders for ReTs who have completed the five-year ReT period and to convert left-out RRETs to Teachers Grade II/III.
Addressing the rationalization of teaching staff, Sharma called on the Director of School Education Jammu, Chief Education Officers, Cluster heads, and ZEOs to strengthen primary and middle schools by providing adequate staff. He proposed that each primary school have at least two teachers, each middle school have at least five teachers, and each pay centre middle school have at least six teachers.
Other demands raised included increasing the grade of teachers to match their counterparts in other UTs, filling vacant posts of ZEOs, Principals and Headmasters, and issuing the second DPC list of teachers to masters.
Several other JKTJAC representatives including Sham Sharma, Sukesh Khajuria, Pritam Goswami, Ravinder Singh Rathore, Shamsher Singh, Bhushan Khajuria, Sandeep Sharma, Suresh Sharma and Ajay Thakur also attended the meeting.
