JKTTA extends hunger strike for 48 hrs

JAMMU, Mar 14: Jammu and Kashmir Temporary Teachers’ Association (JKTTA), Jammu Division today extended their hunger strike for next 48 hours.
Addressing the protesting teachers, JKTTA president, Balwinder Singh Pawar said that they have decided to continue their hunger strike for next 48 hours at Press Club Jammu.
He said, yesterday we sat on hunger strike in front of Education Ministers’ residence in the hope that the Minister will come and listen to our grievances but no one came to listen to our demands till 8 pm and when the time of Minister’s arrival came, the police dispersed us by baton charge in which hundreds of teachers mostly female received injuries.
“But the police did not stop there and arrested our president and other teachers of the association and released them late night after further protest by the teachers”, one of the members of the association said, adding therefore the association has decided to continue their hunger strike for nest 48 hours, but now at Press Club, Jammu.
Those, who are on hunger strike included association president, Balwinder Singh Pawar, vice-president, Swarndeep Antal, general secretary, Ranjeet Singh Bandhral and president of the association for district Samba, Bupinder Chowdhary.
The demand of the association is continuation of services of all temporary teachers working in the State.
