JKTUC frames body, seeks regularization of DRWs

JAMMU, July 24: Subash Chander Sharma,  son of  former Dy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Pt Mangat Ram Sharma has been re-elected as  president of  Jammu and Kashmir Trade Union Congress (JKTUC) for the second term.
Talking to media-persons here today, the newly elected president said that his term of five years expired a couple of days back and in the general body meeting he has been again unanimously elected by the members. He disclosed that Madan Lal Sharma is the secretary general, Nazir Ahmed from Kashmir as senior vice president, Bimla Slathia vice president,  Devinder Singh senior general secretary, Ranjeet, Rashpal Singh and Nazeen as general secretaries, Rajinder Singh chief organizer while Deepak Sharma as cashier-cum-advisor.
Mr Sharma further said that daily wagers engaged by the Government in various Departments like PHE, PDD, JDA, I&FC etc are facing exploitation. Many of them have been serving for more than 15 years but they have not been regularized. Majority of them are married now and facing problems in feeding their families. The Government must take sympathetic view of their issues and regularize their services as for this purpose five years service is required.
It was also stressed upon by the Trade Union leader to streamline the system in the Provident Office and strengthen this organization to appoint more staff and  maintain the record of the workers of private sector and Public Sector Undertakings. He also demanded that organizations where even five plus workers are  employed should be brought under the PF Act and provided all the benefits including gratuity so that they could be able to support their families after retirement.
