JAMMU, Aug 30: Dr Devansh Yadav, Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), conducted a review meeting today to assess the dengue scenario and the preparedness for controlling and containing a potential outbreak, particularly in light of the ongoing monsoon season and historical data.
The meeting, chaired by Dr Yadav, included key health officials such as Dr Rakesh Magotra (Director of Health Services, Jammu), Dr DJ Raina (State Malariologist, J&K) and Dr Vinod Sharma (Health Officer, JMC) among others.
During the meeting, Dr DJ Raina delivered a PowerPoint presentation detailing the current dengue situation, strategies employed and the resources provided by the Health Department. The presentation also highlighted the collaboration between JMC and the Health Department, focusing on high-risk areas, hotspots and the overall preparedness to manage any potential outbreak.
Dr Yadav stressed the growing concern that dengue poses as a significant public health issue in the country. He instructed the JMC to fully support the Health Department’s efforts in controlling the disease.
The meeting concluded with several key decisions, including the dissemination of awareness activities in educational institutions and universities. The pre-recorded audio messages provided by the State Malariologist will be broadcasted through JMC’s garbage vans across all wards, public address systems at 33 prominent locations in Jammu city, and displayed on JMC’s Digital Display Units (LEDs).
Additionally, the JMC committed to providing mobility support, intensifying sanitation drives, clearing dumped garbage and discarded rubber tyres and ensuring the unclogging of drains to mitigate the risk of dengue outbreaks.
