JAMMU, Sept 14: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Mandeep Kaur convened a meeting with representatives of safai-karamcharis, in which the latter put forth their demands and the problems being faced by them.
During the meeting, various issues were discussed including pending arrears of 6th Pay Commission which have not been received by the Safai-karamcharis till date. They stressed upon that the payment of NGO labour should go in their respective bank accounts rather than collecting from concerned NGO.
The representatives of safai-karamcharis demanded regularization and also insisted that the casual labour and PDL labour who have already completed their 7 years of service in JMC should be considered for regularization. They further requested that the eligible employees may also be considered for the time bound promotion and all safai-karamcharis should be covered under the ESI Insurance Scheme on the analogy of employees of other departments with cashless medi-claim facility for them.
During the meeting, they also demanded allotment of 5 marla plot or quarter to each family of safai-karamcharis, enhancement in wages of skilled/unskilled casual labours, constitution of the State Safaikaramchari Commission on the pattern of other States and scrapping of NGO system, provide gum shoes, rain coats, gloves and mask, regular medical check-up in the medical camps.
Commissioner assured them that their grievances and genuine demands will be taken up on priority basis with higher authorities and will be readdressed accordingly.
The officers present in the meeting were Asstt Commissioner (Rev), Health Officer, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Asstt Secretary, etc.
