JAMMU, Aug 3: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) demolished illegal structures in the areas of Parade and Raj Tilak Road.
As per official spokesman, a joint team of JMC comprising of Enforcement, Revenue, Health and Transport Wing conducted anti-encroachment drive in the areas of Parade and Raj Tilak Road late last night.
He informed that the drive was conducted on the instructions of Commissioner, JMC, Arvind Kotwal under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (A), JMC Rishpal Singh and Secretary, JMC Sunaina Sharma. The police force from Parade Police Post and Pacca Danga Police Station also assisted the municipal team.

During the drive the team observed that most of the shopkeepers had raised illegal structures in front of their shops which obstructed free movement of pedestrians as well as free flow of water in the public drains, he said, adding that the notices under Municipal Corporation Act 2000 were served to the defaulters for removal of encroachments. Moreover, announcements were also made by the field staff of JMC in this matter.
During the drive the team dismantled a number of illegal structures in the Raj Tilak Road. People from surrounding areas as well as shopkeepers gathered on spot and posed a tough resistance.
Earlier as a part of anti-encroachment drive, two shops which were sealed for violating Section 232 of Municipal Corporation Act 2000 were desealed as per orders from Division Bench of High Court J&K after deposit of Rs 50,000 alongwith undertaking to the Judicial Registrar not to repeat the violation. Division Bench also held that in case of violation of High Court order the amount will be forfeited, the spokesman added.
