JAMMU, May 8: In an anti-encroachment drive conducted in the areas of Patta Bohri, Talab Tillo, Akhnoor Road, Bakshi Nagar Pulli upto Canal Head, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today removed encroachments from footpaths and seized four trucks of material displayed by the shopkeepers on footpaths.
The drive was conducted with the help of police in compliance to the orders of Division Bench of the State High Court in WPPIL No. 27/2017 titled Court on its own motion v/s state of J&K & others, dated 28/03/2018, in order to ease traffic congestions and ensure free movement of pedestrians on footpaths.
The team of JMC was led by Secretary, Sunaina Mehta, who was accompanied by Deputy SP Traffic, Sunny Gupta, Enforcement Officer, Kamini Kesar, Revenue officers, Parmod Kumar, Ashwani Sudan, Sunil Gupta and enforcement staff of JMC.
During the drive, the special squad of JMC seized four trucks of material like counters, and other material displayed by the shopkeepers/pheri walas in front of their shops and footpaths causing traffic congestions and free flow of pedestrians.
The team also lifted illegal rehries and removed unauthorized hoardings/flexes from these areas. Moreover 80 vehicles were challaned by Traffic Police for violating traffic rules by parking their vehicles on the roads causing traffic congestion. Strict instructions were also issued to the street vendors/pheri walas to ply their rehries only in the rehri zones established by the JMC.
The JMC has been repeatedly issuing strict instructions to the shopkeepers regarding removal of encroachments by shopkeepers through public notices and till now 104 notices have been served by JMC to shopkeepers violating rules by displaying their goods beyond the shutter line of their shops.
