JAMMU, Oct 12: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here today launched a sanitation drive at Mubarak Mandi Complex under Swachhata Pakhwada 2021 initiative.
JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta; Deputy Mayor, Purnima Sharma; Chairman Public Health and Sanitation Standing Committee, Narinder Singh; Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Raghav Langar; Commissioner JMC, Avny Lavasa and JMC Health Officer, Dr. Sanjogita Soodan participated in the sanitation drive under which stretches and spots surrounded by wastes and bushes were cleared. Prominent citizens of the society, NSS volunteers of Govt College of Education Jammu led by NSS Nodal Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal, Prof Shapia Shameem Bhatti, Prof Seema Kumari and Prof Sarita Dogra and sanitation staff of JMC participated in the drive to create awareness of cleanliness among masses.
Various slogans were designed to bring focus to the core concerns of Swachh Bharat Campaign like plastic ban, use of dustbins and keeping public places clean.
On this occasion the Mayor informed that JMC is implementing the scheme ‘Plastic Lao Thala Pao’ in every Ward of Jammu for which children are being involved to spread the message of Swachh Bharat Mission in the entire city.
The JMC Commissioner said that aim of launching sanitation drive is to give extra focus on sanitation and Mubarak Mandi was chosen for today’s drive, as this is an iconic monument of Jammu city.
She added that JMC shall continue with such sanitation drives at other iconic spots of the city for sanitation and better upkeep.
Lavasa further stated that directions have been given to the sanitation staff for putting every possible effort to ensure higher cleanliness in the city.
She appealed to the people to cooperate with JMC and use identified places for disposal of garbage. She also stressed to avoid the use of polythene.
