JAMMU, May 18: Jammu Municipal Corporation organized an awareness camp in connection with solid waste management in coordination with the Councillor Yash Pal Sharma and resident of Ward number 35, here today.
Chief guest of the programme was Mayor JMC, Chandermohan Gupta while the programme was presided over by Baldev Singh Baloria, Chairman Health and Sanitation Committee as well as Suraj Prakash Padha, Chairman Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Committee, JMC.
During the programme, people were inspired to prepare home compositing. Dr Zaffar Iqbal, Nodal Officer, SWM, explained about the whole programme of the JMC to dispose off Solid Waste. He described various programmes to prepare cloth bags and Agarbati in collaboration with Shrine Board Trust of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, Katra.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor announced to engage a tempo in ward number 35 for collecting garbage from door to door. He also stated that J&K State has obtained the status of ODF by completing 9.34 crore toilets. He committed to explore the programme of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on priority basis. Other supporting programmes to clean Jammu will be launched soon, he added.
In his address, Councillor of ward number 35, Yash Pal Sharma appealed people to keep their surrounding clean and said that holding broom in hand for cleanliness does not lower the status as Prime Minister of India himself did the same on 2nd Oct 2014 and set an example.
Baldev Singh Baloria stressed that people should properly dispose off garbage from their homes. He requested people to support JMC for better management of the solid waste.

The prominent members present in the programme, included B M Kohli, Thoru Ram, Udey Chand, Yash Pal Gupta and Sudesh Dogra. They also spoke on the occasion and drew attention towards the local issues.
