JMC seizes 18 kg SUP, fines defaulters of Rs 19,300

JAMMU, July 16: As per the directions of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner, a team of Health Section of JMC including Sanitation Officers, Assistant Sanitation Officers, Sanitary Inspectors and Sanitary Supervisors conducted an inspection to check the illegal use of Single Use Plastic (SUP).
During inspection the JMC team seized 18 kg SUP and fined defaulters of Rs. 19,300.
Further the Health Officer of JMC has appealed to the general public to extend full cooperation to JMC in curbing the illegal use of SUP which is now a penalizing offence under Solid Waste Management Rules 2016.
In a handout JMC stated that it hopes to meet the challenge (of stopping the use of SUP) together with general public to make environment sustainable and eco-friendly.
