JMC seizes unwholesome chicken meat

JAMMU, May 4: After In-charge Police Post Sarwal informed Jammu Municipal Corporation regarding seizure of unwholesome raw chicken meat weighing around 100 kgs from the premises of ‘Punjabi Brothers’ Rehari Colony, Municipal Veterinary Officer JMC, Jammu, Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma under the supervision of Commissioner, JMC, Avny Lavasa visited the said premises and on the basis of sensory evaluation found the raw chicken meat unhealthy and unwholesome, which would have been detrimental to public health if consumed.
The said chicken meat was immediately seized and destroyed as per the standard scientific guidelines of meat hygiene. During the visit, Duty Magistrate Rajesh Bali and In-charge Police post Sarwal, Vishav Partap Singh were also present.
The premises were sealed by the Police and FIR was registered against the owner.
Meanwhile, Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu said that a verbal complaint was recieved on May 3 from chowki officer Rehari by his office and accordingly a team of food safety officer was deputed to investigate the matter. While investigation it was found that commerical activity was running at residential area of Food business operator ‘Punjabi Brothers’, immediately he was been challaned for cooking food under unhygenic conditions and other contraventions of Food Safety and Standards Act. The cooked food under unhygenic conditions was destroyed on the spot and futher owner was directed to stop his commercial activities till further order. however it was advised to recall veternary doctor from JMC Jammu for further coarse of action regarding raw meat. The report was also shared with concerned chowki officer by Food Safety Officer.
