JAMMU, Feb 7: A meeting of Public Health Sanitation Committee of Jammu Municipal Corporation was held under the leadership of Chairman Public Health Sanitation Committee, Baldev Singh Billawaria.
The members of the Committee were also present along with various officials of JMC in the meeting in which the outline of the work to be done by JMC and the works completed during last few months were also discussed. During the meeting, Billawaria said that the Committee has decided with consensus that some officers of the Health Wing of JMC will be relieved of the dual responsibility given to them so that they can focus on their work properly.
He directed the officials to identify the owner of the plots in Jammu city who have erected unauthorized Jhuggis and asked the officials to levy a hefty fine on them and also serve them notices to construct toilets and septic tanks in their plots within 15 days as these slums are making fun of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission and the owners have made these plots a source of income by completely ignoring the rules and regulations laid down by the Government.
He said that no one will be spared if found causing insanitary conditions. In such a situation, there is a need to identify those who are responsible of settling these Jhuggis without sanitation facilities.
Along with this, Billawaria said that JMC will now act vigorously on those who are responsible of putting the mulba of the construction on the streets and strict action will be taken if they do not lift the mulba after construction. Chairman Billawaria appealed the public in general that toilets are being constructed by JMC in the city and residents should use the toilets only. He asked public not to go in the open for defecation as open defecation carries the risk of spreading many diseases. By making Jammu city open defecation free, all of us will have to be aware and only then the dream of a “Clean India Healthy India” will be realized. Sobat Ali, Raj Kumar, Tirtha Kaur, Shama Akhtar, Narendra Singh, Mohinder Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Arun Khanna were also present in the meeting.
